Oh to have a garden!

I've attached a link to an interesting article by Tom Simcock in which he highlights the likely impact of COVID-19 on the private rented sector. It is worth a read, as Tom makes some good points about the lock-down and inequality. However, what has struck me about the pandemic is the new divides being drawn by housing, which have very little to do with wealth. The best example is the garden. There are council houses and flats with amazing gardens and those with none, there are multi-million pound houses and flats with amazing gardens and those with none. I'd argue that access to a garden during the tropical weather we experienced during the initial phase of the lock-down, was of considerable value. I'd even go as far as predicting that garden access could be a key determinant of mental health outcomes during the lock-down, although those outcomes are still likely to differ substantially between socioeconomic groups. I just hope someone does the research to prove me right.
